Whilst this week saw a huge bidding war over the $.com and pizza.com domain names, not that long ago a big battle was waged over a domain name that could, arguably, be far more profitable than either of those.
Like with the relatively recent purchase of Porn.com, the acquisition of Adult.com was always going to be a very big deal indeed, but at the same time it was always going to be interesting to see exactly what they were going to do with a site that could make them piles of money by just having ads on it.
Picked up by the JennaCash label though, there was always going to be a big chance that they would do something really worthwhile with it and they have done, turning it into a DVD download site. Now that might not sound like a thrilling proposition, but it might just be.
There isn't really a lot more that companies can do with the humble DVD download site, but Adult.com tries something a little bit different and it also solves the problem of why you don't see the DVDs of a certain Miss Jameson on many other sites.
Adult.com makes itself more marketable by virtue of the fact that it offers exclusive DVDs, and that really is the future for this type of site. It's not necessarily about volume of DVDs any more, it's not about whether you can offer something different from all the rest of the sites out there.
Adult.com allows manages the trick of carefully selecting its titles to make sure that you're being offered quality ahead of quantity - but this is something that all DVD download sites should manage to try out.
