Andrew Blake

A screenshot from one of his best movies, Sleazy Motel.
If you tried to convince those who view porn as nothing but despicable, titillating nonsense that there are some genuine and extremely talented people working in the industry, then you would be fighting a losing battle.
I've tried it, believe me. Half the problem is though that many people in the industry don't actually realise there are great talents working amongst them. Nor can people accept that some talented people have CHOSEN to work in porn, not been lumbered with it.
Take Andrew Blake for instance. This is a guy who holds the distinction of having directed the only pornographic movie to have won an award at a major mainstream international film festival. If he wanted to leave porn, he could.
But he's chosen not to, and I think we can all be thankful of that. Looking through his site, his talents put almost everyone in the industry to shame - he is incredibly talented, knowing how to use the strengths of his talents.
His key element is not to let too many of his performers act too much. The likes of Peter North and Rocco Sifredi may be marvellous pornstars, but the prospect of them trying to act well is one that doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.
So he works with what he's got and crafts movies that are often dark in texture and tone, but are quite unlike most things that you will see in the adult industry. When he stops making movies, there is going to be a huge hole in the industry that will need filling.
