I've often commented that the pornographic output of Japan is amongst the most interesting and unique of perhaps any other country in the world, and an article I read today certainly hasn't changed my perception.
I don't often refer to the Mainichi Daily News but an article in it certainly sheds more light on Asian and specifically Japanese porn, and is the type of article I'd like to see written on a regular basis about American porn as there is a lot that could be written here.
The revelation here that many of Japan's hardcore stars are actually your average woman from the street looking to earn extra money or even just have a bit of celluloid 'nookie' certainly adds extra gravitas to sites like Asian Gonzo where the action relies on amateurism.
I've always stated that the action from Japan always feels more real and almost more dramatic, and if the majority of their industry's performers are indeed amateurs then it's only right that this would be the feeling that you would get.
What was particularly interesting to read here is the fact that the display of genitalia in Japan in movies is illegal - a fascinating fact considering they were the first nation to produce sexually explicit mainstream films such as Ai No Corrida.
It's a fascinating article from a fascinating country and its occasionally marvellous pornographic output, and it certainly makes you want to get to know their hardcore porn output a lot better - and hopefully we will!
