AVN Awards - Jessica Drake big winner

Jessica Drake, one of the big winners at this year's AVN Awards.
The results are in from this year's
AVN Awards. The verdict? BORING.
I think the idea of such awards is a good one, don't get me wrong. I don't see any reason why the porn industry shouldn't have a major award ceremony just like mainstream cinema does. But these awards are going pretty much the same way of the Oscars.
In other words, there's far too much mainstream stuff and so many of the awards are so easy to predict. Randy Spears and Evan Stone? Wow, who couldn't have predicted that one? Best directing award to Brad Armstrong? Never saw that one coming!
I really don't get the overall adulation for Armstrong, I must say. By inserting big money stunts and a plot into his films, the porn scenes that are just thrown in from time-to-time look completely ridiculous for the most part and it completely upsets the flow of the whole film. Yeah, they've had some good scenes in them but they're usually spoiled by camera tricks and techniques that he's clearly seen in too many Stanley Kubrick films. THIS IS PORN. If I wanted to watch a proper film, I'd rent a Kieslowski.
Plus, there are too many categories! As much as I'd love to be sat in a big room filled with pornstars, I don't think I could sit through even a fraction of all that. My arsehole would seal up after a couple of hours. I understand that they might want to represent as many niches as possible, but I think the world could survive without a Best POV Sex Scene award, don't you?
And where is the representation for internet based porn? There is an award ceremony for that, I believe. I think they're called the OPRA Awards or something. But they're really quite poor. Porn award ceremonies have got a lot to learn - much like their mainstream culture counterparts, I'd say.
