When Porn Is Overrated

Overrated? Surely not?

Many, many things in the history of the world are overrated. Porn is no different.

For instance, does the huge amount of mainstream publicity that Jenna Jameson gets these days match her status as a porn star? Is she really THAT good? Ugh, not really. I mean, she's pretty good, but I'm of the opinion that once you've seen one you've seen them all.

I think the fact that she mainly aligned herself with Brad Armstrong, who himself is vastly overrated as a porn director, for the latter part of her career in particular, doesn't help in that regard. If I want big budget effects, I'll go see a Michael Bay film.

Can we all rest easy though that universally praised male stars such as Peter North are as good as it is said they are? Not really, no. I mean, if you grab a whole bunch of his stuff, you're not exactly going to see the most versatile performer around.

But porn film titles don't get away that easily either. Deep Throat is perhaps rightfully notorious and certainly rightly defined as a turning point for mainstream pornography. But is it a great porn film? By today's standards, not especially.

Like I always say - try before you buy.
