Pirates by Digital Playground

Carmen Luvana. Insert pirate porn gag here.
There seems to be an ever-growing addiction in the upper echelons of the porn industry to carry the business somewhere closer to Hollywood - and to be perfectly honest to you I don't really understand that at all.
Pirates XXX for instance is the perfect example of this. It's a porn film so high on budget and ambition that it's almost as if they believe they can be a genuine contender to the types of films that Hollywood churns out.
But why? If I want to see a Hollywood film then I'll see a Hollywood film. If I want to watch porn then I want porn. I don't really have much interest in a combination of the two - they just don't end up doing either very well.
I mean, sure, the movie has won an absolute stack of awards from the adult industry and even garnered some interest in mainstream circles. But before the industry gets too carried away with its success it should heed a warning.
Remember all those Shannon Whirry / Shannon Tweed / Deborah Shelton films of the 90s? They were Hollywood's attempts at being as close to pornographic as they could get in a real film. And they really sucked.
I regard Pirates XXX as a film that is entirely too aware of trying to win awards and notices for big effects and big star names forgetting to make the porn consistently really good (although it does manage it once or twice). It's a bit like the porn version of the movie Philadelphia - terrible film, but clearly made with the Oscars in mind.
I'd hate to see that happen to the porn industry. Want to see what the fuss is about? You can watch the full and uncensored version at Digital Playground.
