ICANN-Not Believe It!
So the long-fabled .XXX website suffix for adult sites has been rejected once again. But should we really care one way or the other?
In a saga that's been rumbling on for years, ICANN - the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers - shelved their plans for introducing .XXX domains for the third time a week ago, even though over 76,000 of these domains have been pre-reserved so far. The idea of introducing voluntary .XXX domains for websites featuring adult content is one that's seen heated debate from the industry and consumers alike.
The main idea behind introducing the new porn domain names is to make protecting minors from accessing their content easier and that they will make porn sites easier to identify.
Yeah, OK, so some site names are a little hard to identify as being full of the rude stuff. Take Minx Addiction, for example. If you weren't paying proper attention you might just assume it's a support group for people with an over-enthusiastic love of mink coats who happen to have lost their dictionaries. But there's no mistaking what the majority of porn sites are all about. For example, no one is going to think that Fucking Hot Moms is a site about mothers whose thermostat has become stuck on a high temperature, causing their house to get so hot they just have to swear about it! Besides, as registering for an .XXX domain is voluntary, would it really make much of a diffeence anyway?
How about drawbacks to the potential .XXX suffix? Well, there's one very important one that would affect a lot of us. Just think how much easier it would be for companies to ban their workers from browsing porn at work if all they had to do was block one little suffix. Nooooooooo! It just can't happen! Sneaky surfing for big tits and wet pussies is an important part of the average work day... especially if you happen to be reviewing porn, of course.
So, have we seen the last of .XXX domains? Probably not. The future of these sites is unclear, but if they do come into action at some time in the future you can be sure of one thing - we'll still be here to check them all out for you!
