Content
This site currently features 4224 DVDs (20,008 scenes at time of review), with no photo galleries available here. The videos are usually available to view in Flash and WMV formats to stream and download, displaying at a highest resolution of 720x480 (4100kbps). New titles are added to this site 5 times per day.
Hmm, you wait several months for a low-price and amply sized DVD site - and two come along at once! But it's fair to say that DVD Rack offers a different a different proposition from anything else I've reviewed recently.
For a start, its size is mightily impressive. I'm told that this is a new site, so to launch with such a massive amount of titles already installed is a great achievement and they deserve a lot of credit for that. Also, good on them for trying out some labels or companies that are slightly more underground.
I think it must always be tempting for people setting these sites up to immediately grab titles from the obvious big labels. But as a result of this site's policy, you get to see a lot of unheralded titles. Unfortunately, the actual video quality is really quite disappointing.
Even on the high quality streams or downloads, whether Flash or WMV, the videos can be quite fuzzy and dark. And on a DVD site, and in a genre where there are so many competitors, that fact can be more than enough to put people off having a look at this.
User Interface
The navigation here was quite good, weighed down by one or two major problems. Download speeds were incredibly slow at times even on low definition videos and these are really in need of attention very quickly before they become better known.
Otherwise, things were quite good. Viewing options on the videos were good for both streaming and downloading, while there are full indexes for all the titles, studios and performers that appear on the site. Update information was good too.
Conclusion
DVD Rack is a very fine DVD site but in a highly competitive branch of the adult market, they have to fix their faults quickly. Video quality is comparatively poor and pretty disappointing, and download speeds were far too slow even on pretty short clips.
But they do have their major plus points too, with a very large selection of movies that isn't just the usual selection of mainstream and obvious titles you usually get on such sites. The trial option, offering full access, is a really great addition too. Extremely promising.
This site has the following subscription fees:-
$1.00 (1 day, recurring at monthly fee)
$9.95 (monthly, recurring)
$24.95 (3 months, further information unknown)
Sana, They might have many movies, but their website returns many errors when you browse. My id worked only for the first day, then after that it said that I didn't have 'permission to view' the clips. Absolutely zero help from their customer support. They basically just took my money. I would not recommend this site to anyone. I would join Videobox instead, they are much more reliable, and seem more honest as a company.
