My Cinemix

This site currently contains 1546 videos, most of which are full length DVD movies, available to view at the time of review. The videos can be streamed or downloaded in WMV and Flash Player formats. The highest quality videos here display at 640x480 (2400kbps). There was no indication of how often the updates were though.

I’ll happily admit to misunderstanding or misjudging My Cinemix. I didn’t know this was a ‘rental’ site but that’s mainly because they don’t actually tell you much of anything before you join the site. Information was at a premium to say the very least here.

The idea is that you buy some credits, pick a download or stream, and then you get access to the scene or movie for a set amount of time. Sounds okay, I suppose. But I really can’t see how this site offers any semblance of value when pitched against its many competitors.

Don’t get me wrong - the selection of movies is fine and pretty large, and they appear to have access to many top studios and stars. Good on them in the regard.

But when you consider that renting one movie for a week costs you, basically, $8 and you can buy a monthly membership to the top DVD download sites for just a couple of dollars more than that, plus the fact that you get to download as many as you want AND keep them, where does that leave this site? It’s a shame because technically there is little wrong with it.

The navigation here was very good indeed and I found little wrong with it. My only real complaint would be that the stars section needs to be alphabetised, although a search box makes this slightly better.

The viewing options were reasonable enough and the video selection was a good one. There was some decent enough information with each of the videos and movies as well. Just could do with some dates on those new videos though.
