The surname Laine is quite a famous one as regards pornography - especially so, I would suspect, if you're a fan of The Bloodhound Gang. But talking about the porn industry and where it is now, rather than 10 years ago when the aforementioned group rather graphically propositioned Chasey Laine, there is really only one Miss Laine who is worthy of lengthy discussion, and that one is Charlie Laine.

To say that Charlie Laine is in high-demand is certainly no understatement. To also say that she frustrates a number of bigwigs within the industry is probably true also. This strictly lesbian and solo only performer is offered regular and high profile hardcore roles, but to date has only relented once, citing it as one of the worst experiences in her life. Despite readily admitting that she would make far more money if she took on hardcore roles, Charlie has stuck to her guns admirably.

Charlie Laine started her career at 18 and it didn't take her long to find work with some of the biggest names in adult photography - Suze Randall, Stephen Hicks and Earl Miller all came knocking and she accepted all their offers, although she wasn't always confident in her ability to make it as an adult model or performer. Charlie felt her butt was too big for someone so petite (Charlie Laine is listed as being 5' 3"), but what she considered to a potential weakness clearly did not, and still does not, register with some of the key players in the industry.

These initial shoots were a mixed experience for Charlie Laine. She labelled Earl Miller an 'asshole' during an original test shoot for Penthouse after he criticised her weight and complexion. This, thankfully, did not put her off from shooting with the iconic publication and she admitted to enjoying every other shoot she had done with the magazine, with her being full of nothing but praise for the way they treat their models and talent.

Charlie Laine took things relatively slowly in the next 3 years or so of her career, looking to gain confidence at her own pace rather than be rushed into making too many movies before she was truly ready. Knowing full well that big-time offers would find their way to her when she was ready to exert herself more, her languid approach paid off in February 2006 when she became that month's Penthouse Pet. She continues to shoot occasionally with the company to this day.

Rather than committing herself to a deal that would see her tied exclusively to one label, Charlie instead tried to stay as freelance as she could, accepting short-term contracts with many of the biggest companies around. Securing contracts with the likes of Danni.com, Wicked Pictures, Zero Tolerance, Digital Playground and many more besides, she enjoyed the freedom of being able to work with whoever she wanted whenever she wanted to.

She has, tentatively, made some moves to potentially move into the mainstream. Having appeared in an episode of Fat Guy Nation for the National Lampoon website as well as flexing her muscles in the World's best Naked Women Contest, rumours have started to surface that she is seriously contemplating retiring from the adult industry. It would be a significant loss - she is one of the very few fully dedicated performers of lesbian content around, and her movies are consistently sexy and interesting.

That major industry awards continue to elude her, despite her consistently superb performances for a whole host of top companies, directors and photographers, is the fault of an industry too often bogged down in handing out accolades to its so-called 'Hardcore A-List' and not her. Who knows, maybe one day a successful group will write a ballad for her too - and it might even be a good group as well!
