Retro Porn Archive is a true vintage porn site. While most retro porn sites think that content from just over 10 years ago counts as being retro, this site really does give you proper vintage porn.
With porn videos and photos that date back well over 100 years ago, and featuring an archive right up to and including the last 1960s, this is a site that is for those truly interested in porn history.
This site currently contains 426 videos and a total of just over 12,500 individual photos on this site. Understandably, these photos do vary in size and there are no ZIP sets to download. The videos are available to download in Flash format, but the sizes of videos varied up to a best quality 640x480. There was no update information on this site.
I think the use of the word ‘retro’ can be a relative thing. For instance, in video games circles it can refer to stuff made only about 10 years ago. But there’s no excuse in porn for the same criteria to be placed on the word. Retro Porn Archive shows what SHOULD be regarded as retro, and that is still that was made at least over 40 years ago and it’s a collection that, perhaps, skimps on the quality of the actual erotica and opts for a more historical view.
I guess under that criteria there will be some people that will be put off because there isn’t the instant and very notable in-your-face nature to the content. But for those, like me, that just have a general interest in the history of porn and indeed in seeing stuff that has never or rarely been seen before, it really is a fascinating collection. The navigation here was okay with the general information about the different content they have being the most interesting part of the site. There is not enough update information for me - in fact there is almost no information at all, but I guess it matters less here as there are so many videos and it clearly updates so often. The division of the content up into the different decades that it covers was very helpful indeed, as were the genre categories.
Retro Porn Archive is a site that really will prove to be very interesting to anyone that has even just a passing interest in the history of porn and older pornography in general.
It covers a very good time period as well as the fact that it is seemingly interested in finding rarities and stuff that people might have hiding away in their basements or attics. Interesting and very impressive.
